Pilots are typically students of science, technology and history. Few experiences can replace a day at a museum viewing a unique or rare artifact from aviation history.

Baker City

Baker City with the help and enthusiasm of the Eastern Oregon Chapter of the Oregon Pilots Association have put Eastern Oregon near the top of the list when it comes to Oregon Flying destinations. The Annual airshow, pancake feed, and steak fry are just the start; add in the Sumpter Valley steam train, the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center and you have a great weekend.

SR-71 Blackbird

One of the more recent arrivals on the museum scene is the SR-71 Blackbird at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon. You get a chance to look at the SR-71 in the shadow of the HK-1, aka the Spruce Goose.

Arriving at McMinnville, the ladies at Cirrus Aviation are always helpful and make a call to the museum to have the van come across the highway to pick you up. The drivers are museum volunteers who don't accept 'tips', they ask you to drop your token of appreciation into the donations box inside the building. Getting back to the airport is just as easy.

There are special admission prices for seniors, students, veterans or groups. It isn't difficult to make this museum a regular destination. Check the museum website sprucegoose.org for updates and special events.
