
Annual Conference Schedule
2023
The Oregon Pilots Association (OPA) Annual Conference is scheduled for Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Columbia Aviation Association (CAA) located at the Aurora State Airport, 14323 Stenbock Way NE #9407, Aurora OR 97002.

RSVP is required by no later than 5:00 PM, August 4, 2023. There is free admission, lunch, and a beverage for OPA members attending the OPA sessions. Email your RSVP to OPA Membership Services Neal White at nealwhite150@gmail.com.

CAA is just east of the control tower. There is aircraft parking between CAA and the control tower. Be aware there have been recent Vehicle/Pedestrian Deviations (V/PD) at Aurora Airport so be cautious. There is vehicle parking available at CAA, Aurora Aviation’s gravel lot on the south side of CAA, and near the hangars east of CAA. We have been allocated a seating capacity of 120. CAA will also help OPA promote this big event. Visit www.caapilots.com to view pictures of the facility and the history of CAA.
We plan to have all the OPA meetings in-person and at the same time have it available on Google Meet to accommodate the OPA members: https://meet.google.com/ari-zvfz-wyw. The AOPA meeting will only be in-person. RSVP is required by no later than 5:00 PM, August 4, 2023, see below for further information.

The Oregon Pilots Association was registered on February 10, 1936. The OPA is one of the oldest state pilots’ associations in America. OPA is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization; donations and dues paid to the OPA are tax deductible.

The Oregon Pilots Association Air Safety and Education Foundation (ASEF) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization; donations to the OPA ASEF are tax deductible. The OPA website is oregonpilot.org

For those who are not an OPA member, the lunch and beverage cost is $25.00 which includes the annual OPA membership fee of $25.00. Student Pilot: Any person currently enrolled in an accredited FAA flight training program and who has not earned his/her private pilot’s certificate. Duration of Student Membership status is two years free.

Session 1: Rusty Pilots 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
OPA is co-hosting with AOPA a Rusty Pilots seminar. AOPA requests OPA to be sure to include this link on all our marketing efforts: The link to register is: https://webforms.aopa.org/event/aopa-rusty-pilots-seminar-at-aurora-state-airport- uao/e489417.Since the attendees will need to be an AOPA member, join AOPA to attend, or pay the fee of $79.00 to AOPA to attend, this will not be available on Google Meet. AOPA will give OPA President Enger a chance to speak at the beginning and at the end of the AOPA in-person seminar. Also, an endorsement label for your logbook which shows you received two hours of ground training. Instructed by AOPA Foundation Presenter Philip Mandel.

The Rusty Pilots initiative is designed to bring you up to date on regulatory and procedural changes that may have taken place during your time away from flying, as well as provide a refresher on medical requirements, cross country planning and weather (METARs and TAFs), pilot responsibilities, runway incursion avoidance, radio procedures, airspace and much more. The material is presented in a fun, interactive way, and you will have the chance to download the materials so you can review what you have learned and know what to do next. This seminar will include FAA WINGS credit.

Session 2: FAASTeam Program Manager 1:15 PM to 2:15 PM. Dallas Enger will introduce Joseph P. Mollahan, FAASTeam Program Manager – Operations, Portland Flight Standards District Office. This seminar will include FAA WINGS credit. Philip Mandel is the manager of the FAA WINGS credits.

Session 3: PDX Controller 2:25 PM to 3:25 PM. Philip Mandel to invite and introduce a controller at PDX . This seminar will include FAA WINGS credit. Philip Mandel is the manager of the FAA WINGS credits.

Session 4: New Oregon Dept of Aviation Director 3:35 PM to 4:35 PM. Neal White to invite and introduce the new Oregon Department of Aviation Director Kenji Sugahara.

Session 5: On Going UAO Efforts 4:40 PM to 5:00 PM. Bruce Bennett with the Aurora Airport Improvement Association would like to be able to share information about the efforts going on at UAO – about 20 minutes.
