September 8th 2025 Update:
OPA Convention Registration Closed
For reasons of seating and catering, registration for the OPA Annual Convention is now closed.
We might be able to squeeze in one or two more, but you'll need to call Steve Bateman, on 402 200 8930, to see if this is possible.
We will not be able to accommodate walk-ins on the day!

August 11th, 2025 Update:
We are just about 4-weeks away from the 2025 OPA Convention, to be held at Aurora State Airport, on Saturday September 13th, 2025.
A couple of weeks ago we heard that major runway refurbishment at Aurora will start around August 18th and will commence for about 30-days. So, go figure, the airport will be closed on the date of the OPA Convention. There are some other options for people wishing to fly themselves close to Aurora...we'll leave that up to you...but as always, CHECK NOTAMS!
Pease note that REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! We need to know numbers for seating and catering.

June 9th, 2025 Update:
Board Meeting Summary
At the board meeting on Saturday June 7th, the OPA membership approved the revised bylaws, which are now in force.
Minutes of the meeting will be posted on the website within a week or so.
Annual Meeting Summary
The main order of business at the annual meeting was the election of the new board of directors.
The new board comprises:

Time Is Running Out for Nominations
The deadline for nominations to OPA Board of Director positions is midnight, Sunday June 1st, 2025.
As of today (6/1/2025), we have nominations for all positions except Director of Membership, and one of the three Director at Large positions.

April 11th, 2025: Update:
1. Your board has approved a revision to the OPA bylaws, known as Revision: June 7th, 2025.
The revision is available for member to review, here.
OPA members will be asked to approve the new bylaws at the board meeting on June 7th, 2025. at 10:00am.
3. The board has also approved a new document that explains how to apply for board positions, or to nominate someone else to a board position. The document also contains the application form to nominate someone (with their permission, of course) or yourself.

Nominations are now open for all board positions (more later). Use the form found here.

Nominations will close at midnight on Wednesday May 28th, 2025.

Elections will take place at the annual meeting on Saturday June 7th, 2025, at 2:00pm

4. Remote access to meetings:
We now have the capability for OPA members to remotely join board and other meetings, using the “Teams” platform. This will not only allow members to remotely attend meetings but also, where applicable, to cast votes using the “raise hand” feature in Teams.

5. As you’ll read below, all board positions are up for election at the annual meeting on June 7th, 2025 (2:00pm). Anticipating the passage of the bylaw revision, we have added some new positions, namely Director of OPA Chapters and up to three Directors at Large.
The plan is to get OPA back to being a strong member-based organization, so these new positions will allow for more focused effort to understand and grow our membership base, whilst not overloading the corporate board positions.
!So, the future of OPA is in your hands—please give serious consideration to serving on the board!

Early April 2025 Updates:
Your Board of Directors has been busy on a number of fronts:
1. I'm very pleased to announce that we have a new Director of Communications, Casey Simons.
Casey, a private pilot, has lots of experience with web design and business systems, so we are now well positioned to greatly improve our web presence...and much more.
2. We have been working on a new revision of OPA bylaws that will greatly improve transparency and guidance for our corporate governance. We are close to a final draft, which I will then post on the website for member review and comment. We aim to present the revision to the membership for approval at the June 7th, 2025 (10:00am) board meeting.
3. I've created a new document that clarifies the procedure for nominations, elections, and voting for open board-level positions. Once approved by the board, I will post the new procedure on the website, and we will use it to conduct elections during the June 7th, 2025 (2:00pm) Annual Meeting.
4. We are working to separate the business entities of OPA and ASEF. For some reason, these entities were combined some years ago, which could cause problems with accounting, tax filing and, importantly, our ability to act as a lobbying organization in the State of Oregon. Although it sounds complicated, this move will be transparent to most OPA members and will allow us to be correctly structured to better support OPA members on one hand, and to raise tax-exempted funds for the foundation, on the other hand. More on this at the June meetings.
5. Planning is well underway the 2025 OPA Annual Conference. The conference will be held at the CAA Building, Aurora Airport, on Saturday September 13th, 2025.

OPA ASEF Scholarship Now Open for Applications
The Raymond Meyer Memorial Scholarship (RMMS) is an annual scholarship providing financial assistance to train for pilot certificates, ratings and endorsements. This year, the scholarship award will be $2,000.
The Scholarship runs from March 1- May 1. Applications will be reviewed, and finalists will be interviewed in May. The winner will be announced during the first week of June.
